650 - getting it running part 8: misc

There is a lot more work that went into getting the bike running beyond the main sections like brakes and fuel. There was cleaning, replacing lights, fixing gauges... all sorts of stuff. All these little extra things really soak up your time.

old grip for a dirt bike, kind of hard and had open ends

new gel grip a little softer and has closed ends

rear wheel back on so the bike is off the lift and ready for the engine

engine is ready to be put back in to the bike, still needs a better cleaning that is for another day

engine refitted, starting to look like a real bike again

added engine oil

broke gauge glass trying to remove the bevel to screw the face back into place

x750 tach was cheap on ebay, took it apart to use the glass

lock tight the hell out of those screws

ready for reassembly

back in the bike, does not look as good as stock, but better than a loose face or broken glass

petcock was leaking so tank is back off again, just about a real bike again

old chain was not too stretched out... too bad I could not find master link. it was slightly rusty
